Most people who know me well, know that I take and post a trillion photos. Those moments are frozen in time. I get obsessed with it. Even more so since dp ( depersonalisation; if this sounds like another language have a peep at the first few blogs :) hit my life, photos became a life line, to look back a see something that I can't recall, it's a healing balm.
Recently we experienced bush fires in our state, and when we received the instruction to " get what's important and get out", I grabbed the photos and my kids ( my husband also obviously ;) I looked around at the rest of the house, and if it all burned, it could be replaced. It had little value.
Actually in that moment, I realised it had no value.
I'm obsessive, I like to know why things work they Way the do, and what makes them stay that way. I am always analysing life. Like the other day I was getting my nails done...my nails. That little silly bit on our fingers that needs to be cut. We spend money on painting and polishing that stuff. It made me laugh, but it made me sad. We are so numb to our culture and the silly things we call normal; that we spend so much time and effort and money on things that could all burn; and therefore mean nothing.
While other children die of hunger, we paint bits on our fingers to look pretty? We pluck hair into a certain shape, we tan and make ourselves brown because...because why? It all seemed so silly in that moment as I packed up our lives and fit it all into the car and drove away.
All I needed was in that car.
Romans 12:2The Message (MSG) Place Your Life Before God
12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Woh. How good are the words of Jesus. That's it, right there. Our purpose, our focus. Don't become well adjusted to our weird ways of living that we now call normal, immerse yourself in Jesus, because the world is swiftly finding ways to immerse us in ourselves, without even knowing.
All my love xx
